Respite Services

Personal Care and Respite services include non-medical personal support, homemaking, medication reminders and assistance, supervision and/or activation and caregiver support, each when needed.
VHA’s Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Home Support Workers (HSWs) assist clients in their own homes with activities of daily living including:

Service Cost

$10.00/h for a minimum of a 2 hour visit/week.
This program is partially funded by Ontario Health.

Assistance with non-medical personal care:

Includes tasks to assist with or supervise the Activities of Daily Living such as:

Medication reminders:

(Cueing) means a verbal reminder (in person) to the client at pre-scheduled times to take their medication(s). Medication assistance provides physical assistance with opening a blister pack or dosette prepared by a family member or pharmacy. The client must be able to self-administer their medication.

Supervision & activation:

Includes oversight/monitoring to ensure safe and healthy behaviours and to promote socialization as well as active, independent living.

Caregiver Support:

To prevent and/or postpone disabilities, distress, discomfort and preventable injury and illness, and to increase the capacity of older adults to have meaningful control over their health and well-being.
